With reassurance from Children’s, the family traveled to China, where they first met their 15-month-old daughter, Kenner, and brought her home. “They handed over this tiny baby,” Bronwyn recalled. “Her heart had gone unrepaired for so long. It's Scary to see how much wear her body had taken.” Upon their return to the U.S., Children’s cardiologists diagnosed Kenner with for congenital heart defects. At18 months old, she underwent open heart surgery. She spent time in the Cardiac Stepdown Unit and went home 10 days later. ”Within a month after being home, she was walking,” Bronwyn said. “She bounced back in a way I Would have never anticipated. She’s done incredible this year!” Kenner will undergo a second surgery in her teens or 20s, but for now the family gets to enjoy an active, joyful toddler who laughs a lot, adores her big brother and loves Chick-fil-A.
